Down for the count today

I have atrial fibrillation. Its been an issue for 7 years and it gets more and more frequent. I’m averaging an episode every 10 days or so. I’m one of those lucky people that are debilitated by it. Some people have it and don’t even know. I am so symptomatic that I’m stuck on the couch until it stops. If I get up to go to the bathroom or to get something to eat, then my heart rate jumps even higher and I get dizzy etc. I’ve been wearing a heart monitor for 10 days and this is the 2nd episode its caught. Thats good. What’s bad is that the longer the episodes last the more I wonder if this is the time it won’t stop. So far I’m 8 hours into this one. My longest episode lasted 14 hours a few weeks ago. I’m praying I’ll go back into rythmn soon.

I’m bored. I’ve been watching Youtube video’s all day but I want to go make some cards! I got some new stamp sets from Gerda Steiner Designs on Saturday. I tried to make something with them yesterday but my creative juices weren’t flowing. Today I have lots of ideas but can’t do anything about it. I also have a package in the mail box from Simon Says Stamp with some more goodies that I want to play with, but I’ll have to wait until I feel better. It can take me a few days to bounce back from an afib episode, depending on how long they last or how bad the episode was. Hopefully I’ll be back in a day or so with a more cheerful post! I hope you are all well.

What a week so far!

Its been a week already and its only Wednesday! On Monday I went into afib so that pretty much took me out of commission for the day. Yesterday I had a Facetime appointment with my cardiologist. It was interesting to say the least. Kind of nice to “see” him from the comfort of my home but also kind of strange. So I get to wear a heart monitor for 30 days again. I did this last year around this time. It wasn’t too bad until towards the end of the 30 days when I had run out of places to stick the electrodes and I got such a bad rash from the adhesive. We had gone away for Memorial Weekend and my skin was so irritated that I took the monitor off for a few hours. We were in the middle of nowhere when my phone rang and the monitor people were calling to make sure I was still alive!! It was pretty funny. Yes, I was still alive, just so darn itchy!!

Today we are taking Maggie to the vet. It will be strange once again as they will come to our car and take her in without us. It makes me anxious as I know how stressed she gets at the vet, even when we are with her. She has strange rust colored areas on her body and little black flecks on her stomach. When we google it, it seems it may be from a yeast infection. Hopefully its something that is easy to treat. She’s acting ok. Last night she ran around the yard so long that she just collapsed on the floor when she came in, she completely wore herself out! Every time we all settle down to watch a movie, she starts talking to us because she wants a bone to chew on. The trouble is, she wants a brand new bone every time and she will literally argue with us over it!! Its hilarious. We’ve never had a dog who will “talk” to us before.

We checked on the baby starlings yesterday and they are growing fast. Their eyes are open and their feathers are growing. Its so fun to watch them grow.

So, onto card making. I got a cute new stamp set from My Favorite Things the other day. So I made a birthday card featuring one of gnomes.

I really enjoy using patterned paper on my cards, as well as using stamped images, so this card uses both. I stamped the image and colored it with copic markers. I then cut it out using the matching dies. I got a paper pack from Photo play ages ago that featured garden gnomes and all of the patterned paper was from that.

I stamped the sentiment and then adhered everything together.

Excitement…of the wrong sort!

Well we had a lot of excitement yesterday when we woke up to a 5.7 magnitude earthquake here in Utah!  It was pretty scary.  It first sounded like thunder, or a sonic boom and then everything started rolling and shaking for about 30 seconds.  We had many aftershocks throughout the day which kept everyone on edge.  I have only felt minor earthquakes during my 28 years in Utah.  This really frightened me, so much so that I ended up with an episode of atrial fibrillation.  Those that deal with afib know how uncomfortable and scary those episodes can be. So it was not a fun day and I didn’t get anything done. Today things are much quieter and I am now in my craft room ready to start creating some more cards.

Here’s a card I did the other day. Its another Easter card and I love how it turned out.

I used the Egg Painting Bunny die from Cottage Cutz.  I cut him from Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 80lb cardstock and colored everything with a mixture of copic and spectrum noir alcohol markers.   I then glued all the pieces together.  For the background I used another piece of the same cardstock cut to 4″x5-1/4″.  I used a stencil from Tim Holtz layering stencils called speckles and used distress oxide inks to create the paint “splatters”.  I used a strip of colorful dotted cardstock from my stash to ground the bunny some.  The sentiment came from a stamp set by Darcie Heater called “Happy Mail”.  I layered that panel with some blue cardstock and adhered it to a white card base cut from Recollections white 110lb cardstock.  I hope you like it!
