Today I decided to make a clean and simple card. I usually love to layer patterned paper but I wanted to challenge myself to do something a little more simple. I love how it turned out.
I used a die from Simon Says Stamp called “Sunflower Frame” and cut it from white cardstock 3 times. I then adhered those layers together. I then used some distress oxide inks and colored a piece of white cardstock and then cut the die again.
I used some patterned paper for the background and glued the flower on to that. Then I paper pieced the petals. I glued it on to a white panel and then on to a white cardbase. I was so tempted to add more patterned paper to the background but I liked how elegant it looked with just the white.
I stamped “Always here for you” on some black cardstock and heat embossed it with white embossing powder. I then adhered it to the card.
Some of the supplies I used for this card are listed here:
I still haven’t been feeling the greatest but I was determined to work on something, so I made a couple of quick cards with the new stamp sets I got from Gerda Steiner Designs. The first card is made with the chicken scratch stamp set.
I stamped the images and then colored them with alcohol markers. I used a cloud edge stencil and distress oxide inks for the background and added some grass. I got a few ink spots on the card so I added some sequins to hide them.
For the 2nd card I used the Lovely Panda stamp set.
I stamped the image and sentiment on a Polaroid shaker frame die from MFT. I layered some cute papers and then used some adhesive foam to add some dimension to the image.
I’m hoping to work on more cards tomorrow. I’ve kind of lost my creative bug over the last few days but I’m hoping for improvement tomorrow!
I don’t have a card to post today but I will try to get one up later on. Last week was very busy and so I didn’t have much time to post. We always go away for Memorial Weekend and this year we weren’t sure if that would happen or not. With the virus going around, we had to wait and see what our State decided to do. Relatively speaking, our state hasn’t been hit too hard so most of the State has been opened up with restrictions. So we decided to go ahead with our plans. We take our RV and are pretty much isolated within our family so we knew it would be pretty safe, especially as we planned on a mostly driving trip. The week was spent getting ready to go and in the middle of it I went into afib again, so that slowed me down as it usually does. I have been wearing a heart monitor so hopefully by the end of 30 days they can see whats going on.
We drove to Southwestern Utah and stayed in Monticello. The main reason we chose this area was because I wanted to see Monument Valley. Growing up in Scotland, I remember my Dad watching all of these old western movies and so many of them were filmed in and around Monument Valley. So I’ve always wanted to go there. It was about a 5 hour drive to get to Monticello and when we got there we were told that the Navajo Nation, who live on the reservation on Monument Valley, lock down on the weekends due to the virus. If we didn’t see it Friday, then we wouldn’t see it at all. So we quickly parked the RV and freshened up some and drove to Monument Valley so we could see it before it closed. It was stunning! Pictures don’t capture the sheer vastness of everything. I thought of my Dad and how he would have loved to have seen it. There were places we could have gone to learn about the movies made there but everything was closed, thats okay. I’m just glad I got to finally be there.
The next day we visited Natural Bridges, Goosenecks point and Valley of the Gods. The scenery was just spectacular. We came home a day early due to plumbing issues in our RV but we had a great time anyway. Its also nice to have a day at home and we plan on barbecuing tonight.
Hello all! I hope that all of the mothers out there are having a good day. We are having a quiet day. The girls and my husband gave me some cards and bought me some flowers for the front porch and the deck. One of my daughters is making dinner and we will have a relaxing evening watching a movie together.
Here are the flowers we chose. I think they are so pretty.
Here are our baby birds…they are growing! Its so fun to go out on the deck and to hear them chirping everytime their mom comes to feed them.
So, since it is Mother’s Day, you may expect me to post a Mother’s Day card! Well, you would be wrong! I made a Father’s Day card the other day and thats the one I will share today. It’ll be here before we know it.
I find it hard to make more masculine cards but this one came together quite easily for me. In the Scrapping For Less kit a few months ago, it was all masculine papers and stamps and thats what helped this happen so easily.
So, the paper that I used came from Scrapping For Less. I love their paper as it is a good quality cardstock and it has a sheen to it that I really like. I used a window die and chose some tool themed paper to fill in the spaces. I used the Sunny Studio “tool time” stamp set that came in the kit.
I colored the saw image with copic markers and added some enamel dots to finish it off.
I’ve spent a lot of time over the last few days stamping, coloring and cutting images for cards. This way I will be able to put a card together more quickly…I hope!! Today I made a floral card on an embossed background. It was a pretty simple card to make. To start I embossed the… Continue reading Floral card
Its been a while! I didn’t realize how long it had been since I had posted on the blog. Life has been busy and I haven’t had a lot of time to make any cards. We had some rain earlier this morning and now the sun is trying to come out. I bought some cute fabric yesterday to make some face masks and those are in the washer right now. Its been hard to find elastic but I ordered a bunch from Etsy the other day and it should be here in a few days.
Yesterday I made a Mother’s Day card. Unfortunately my mother has been gone for a long time but she’s always in my thoughts, especially on days like Mother’s Day. I went through years of infertility and so for many years I hated Mother’s Day. I didn’t have a mother and I wasn’t able to be a mother. Finally we were able to adopt our daughters and my feelings towards Mother’s Day have changed dramatically! Here’s the card I made:
I love using embossing folders and dies..for this card I used both. Its a standard A2 sized card made from my usual Recollections Heavy Weight cardstock. I then embossed some white cardstock with an embossing folder from Darice called Flower Frenzy. I framed that with some blue cardstock. Then I used the dies from Sizzix…Flower set by Lisa Jones…and cut the pieces for the flowers.
I glued the leaves down flat to the paper and used some foam pads to give the flowers some dimension. I also cut some hearts from the die set and glued those down. For the sentiment, I stamped “Happy Mothers Day” from a stamp set by Hero Arts called “Happy Mom’s Day”. That completes the card!
I hope this Sunday morning finds you happy and well despite all of the challenges we have been facing.
Despite all that is going on in the world and the challenges we all face in our daily lives, there are always things to be thankful for. This is something I have needed to be reminded of a lot lately as we are facing a lot of trials. So I made this simple card today.… Continue reading Feeling of thanks
We’ve had lots of wind and rain today…our temperatures have dropped significantly. Its kind of a relief from the hot sun, as long as it doesn’t linger! As usual, its been a busy week. I love butterflies. We have had a swallow tail butterfly hanging around our yard for a little while. Both… Continue reading Butterflies
Today I used a stamp set from MFT that I have used before, but I love it so much. Its a set called “Hanging with my gnomies”. Well we had a lot of excitement yesterday when we woke up to a 5.7 magnitude earthquake here in Utah! It was pretty scary. Its been a hard week with one thing and another. Its been hard to get motivated to make any cards but last night I made two. I’ll share one with you today.
I love to make slimline cards so I’ll start with this one.
I picked up a new stamp set yesterday so that gave me some motivation! This stamp set is called “Fetch” and its from Photoplay. I love dogs so its always fun to use them in a card. My card base is by Recollections and is their white heavy weight cardstock. I cut it to 9″x8″ and scored it at 4″. So the finished base is 9″x4″. I layered some burgundy faux stitched cardstock on the base, leaving about an 1/8th of an inch of the white base showing. I then cut some plaid paper with the Whimsy Slimline Marquee die. I then cut the same die with some heart cardstock and filled the openings in with those.
I used copic and spectrum noir alcohol markers to color the images and then cut them out with the coordinating dies. I die cut a heart and stamped the sentiment on that, using some distress oxide ink to shade the edges. The sentiment I chose was “Missing you is RUFF”.
I used some Scotch foam adhesive tape to give some dimension to the window panel and then adhered everything together. I like how it turned out.
Since we are on the subject of dogs…here is a picture of our little Maggie!!
I hope you will stop by again soon to see some more cards. See you soon!
There’s not a lot going on so lets just jump in and share a card!
This is a card I made the other day so we will start out with this one.
This is a slimline card (9″x4″) I made using a stamp set from My Favorite Things called “Party Animals”. I will add all the links below. I stamped the images and then colored them with a mixture of copic and spectrum noir alcohol makers. I stamp with Memento Tuxedo black ink onto Neenah Classic Crest 80lb solar white cardstock. After the images were colored I fussy cut them out.
I used Whimsy stamps Slimline Marquee Die for the “windows”. I created some clouds with distress oxide inks in tumbled glass and used the mini edge clouds stencil from My favorite things. I cut some grass with the Honey Bee stamps grass border die.
To create the card base I used Recollections heavy weight white cardstock from Michaels. I use it all the time for my card bases and really like it. I cut it to 9″x8″ and scored and folded it at 4″.
I used some photo play paper that I had lying around to create the background and to cover the “window” part of the card. I made sure to stamp my sentiments before I started to construct the card. I then used foam tape to prop up the window panel and then added the images with a mixture of liquid glue and foam tape.
So that is pretty much it for this card. I hope you like it. I enjoy doing slimline cards as it gives you more space to work with. I’ll be back soon with another card.
It was a beautiful day yesterday and it really felt like spring. We reached 68 degrees with lots of sunshine. Today it is lovely and sunny again but we are expecting rain and then snow over the next few days! Its definately springtime in Utah.
Yesterday we spent most of the day going to 3 different stores, trying to get all the groceries we need. I have an order placed for Friday (used to be able to get same day pick up but now its 4 days out) but last time we didn’t even receive half of what we needed. So this time we went from store to store and managed to get most of what we need…other than Toilet paper, paper towels and tissues! Those are like gold dust. So, once we get Friday’s order, we will be good for a few weeks. It was nice to see that the stores had a lot more stock available, last time we went it was hard to find anything we needed. I really try to limit shopping and only go out every few weeks. I do worry about my daughters who work with the public on a daily basis. Especially my daughter who works in a bank and there are no safety measures in place for her, other than hand santizer.
I’ve been avoiding the news as much as I can as its better for my mental health.
I made another set of “hello” cards yesterday. I’ve been enjoying using embossing folders lately. This one features a wreath and I stamped “hello” in the middle of it.
I used some cardstock from Michaels which has 5 different pastel shades in it. I embossed each panel and then stamped the “hello” in the middle. They are very simple cards but I really like how they turned out. Some of the supplies I used are listed below:
