Its been a week already and its only Wednesday! On Monday I went into afib so that pretty much took me out of commission for the day. Yesterday I had a Facetime appointment with my cardiologist. It was interesting to say the least. Kind of nice to “see” him from the comfort of my home but also kind of strange. So I get to wear a heart monitor for 30 days again. I did this last year around this time. It wasn’t too bad until towards the end of the 30 days when I had run out of places to stick the electrodes and I got such a bad rash from the adhesive. We had gone away for Memorial Weekend and my skin was so irritated that I took the monitor off for a few hours. We were in the middle of nowhere when my phone rang and the monitor people were calling to make sure I was still alive!! It was pretty funny. Yes, I was still alive, just so darn itchy!!
Today we are taking Maggie to the vet. It will be strange once again as they will come to our car and take her in without us. It makes me anxious as I know how stressed she gets at the vet, even when we are with her. She has strange rust colored areas on her body and little black flecks on her stomach. When we google it, it seems it may be from a yeast infection. Hopefully its something that is easy to treat. She’s acting ok. Last night she ran around the yard so long that she just collapsed on the floor when she came in, she completely wore herself out! Every time we all settle down to watch a movie, she starts talking to us because she wants a bone to chew on. The trouble is, she wants a brand new bone every time and she will literally argue with us over it!! Its hilarious. We’ve never had a dog who will “talk” to us before.
We checked on the baby starlings yesterday and they are growing fast. Their eyes are open and their feathers are growing. Its so fun to watch them grow.
So, onto card making. I got a cute new stamp set from My Favorite Things the other day. So I made a birthday card featuring one of gnomes.
I really enjoy using patterned paper on my cards, as well as using stamped images, so this card uses both. I stamped the image and colored it with copic markers. I then cut it out using the matching dies. I got a paper pack from Photo play ages ago that featured garden gnomes and all of the patterned paper was from that.
I stamped the sentiment and then adhered everything together.
Its a beautiful spring day today. The sun is shining, that always helps me feel better. It just lifts my spirits. We are going to have a rainy week so I am enjoying the sunshine while it lasts.
I often have a hard time making cards for boys/men. I recently got a stamp set from MFT called Space Explorer and that has made it much easier.
Here’s the first card I made with this stamp set:
MFT is one of my favorite stamp companies. They make such cute stamps. I used some “galaxy” paper from Scrapping For Less for the background. I stamped the images and colored them with alcohol markers. Then fussy cut them out. I used a circle die to cut a half circle for the moon. I stamped the sentiment and then adhered all the images to the card. This time I used a grey card base. I’m looking forward to using the other images in the stamp set for more cards.
Today I lost one of my best friends. She passed away after a long battle with cancer. I have known her most of my life and was my “American mum”. I was nanny to her kids many years ago and she introduced me to my husband and I left Scotland and came to live a new life in the United States. My life would have been very different if Pat hadn’t been in it. She was a mother, sister and best friend all rolled into one. It will be hard going forward without her in my life.
I laid around most of the day, crying on and off and reflecting on the many years we shared as friends. I could almost hear her telling me to get up and do something. So I came into my craft room and made another card. Something cute and cheerful to try to bring me out of my sadness for a little while. Pat was my crafting buddy. She would be happy that I was able to create something, despite my sadness.
I have been enjoying using dies lately. So today I created this card featuring dies from Mama Elephant and Elizabeth Craft Designs.
I die cut the pieces of the elephant from Neenah Classic Crest solar white 80lb paper and colored them with hickory smoke and worn lipstick distress oxide inks. I then glued the pieces together with Art Glitter glue. I die cut the Happy Birthday from the same paper and glued 2 layers together and then added the third layer in colored cardstock from Recollections. The background paper is from Echo Park’s 6×6″ paper pad called “Happy Birthday”.
