I have atrial fibrillation. Its been an issue for 7 years and it gets more and more frequent. I’m averaging an episode every 10 days or so. I’m one of those lucky people that are debilitated by it. Some people have it and don’t even know. I am so symptomatic that I’m stuck on the couch until it stops. If I get up to go to the bathroom or to get something to eat, then my heart rate jumps even higher and I get dizzy etc. I’ve been wearing a heart monitor for 10 days and this is the 2nd episode its caught. Thats good. What’s bad is that the longer the episodes last the more I wonder if this is the time it won’t stop. So far I’m 8 hours into this one. My longest episode lasted 14 hours a few weeks ago. I’m praying I’ll go back into rythmn soon.
I’m bored. I’ve been watching Youtube video’s all day but I want to go make some cards! I got some new stamp sets from Gerda Steiner Designs on Saturday. I tried to make something with them yesterday but my creative juices weren’t flowing. Today I have lots of ideas but can’t do anything about it. I also have a package in the mail box from Simon Says Stamp with some more goodies that I want to play with, but I’ll have to wait until I feel better. It can take me a few days to bounce back from an afib episode, depending on how long they last or how bad the episode was. Hopefully I’ll be back in a day or so with a more cheerful post! I hope you are all well.
I went shopping today and picked up some new stamp sets…not that I needed any more but you know how it is! I bought a few stamps and dies from Photoplay and I made a card with them today.
I’m not a big joke person…and I don’t think I’m very funny, but I love a good pun! My brothers and my daughters all got the funny gene. These stamps are quite small but there are a lot of them in the set and it was nice to make a clean and simple card.
I started by stamping the image in memento tuxedo black ink and then colored it with copic markers. I used the matching dies to cut it out. I then used some Gina K. dye ink and brushed on some color to the center of the panel. I propped up the image with some foam pads and then stamped the sentiment which reads “I’m your biggest fan”.
I added some navy cardstock to frame the panel with and then adhered it all to an A2 cardbase.
We are a dog family. I didn’t have dogs growing up but when I got married and moved to Utah, we went through 7 years of infertility and I was so desperate for something to love, so into our lives came our first dog, Misty. She was a toy poodle and she became my best friend. When she was 18 months old, we adopted our first daughter. Misty was not happy. She didn’t like kids until they got to be around 8 or 9 years old, then she would tolerate them. She had to go through it all again when we adopted our 2nd daughter when Misty was almost 6. The girls learned to just stay away from her and then when they were old enough, Misty would let them throw a ball for her. Misty lived until she was almost 15 years old.
After Misty passed we were devastated and couldn’t stand being in a home without a dog, so along came Poppy a few months later. Poppy was another toy poodle. She loved the kids, who were older then of course. She was not healthy and we almost lost her at a few months old until we learned that she was allergic to dog food. So I had to cook her special meals every day. She also had a collapsing trachea and couldn’t run and play without choking. She was the reason we bought our RV as we didn’t ever want to leave her home when we wanted to go on vacation. She didn’t like traveling but liked to be with us. Since I was home all day, she quickly became my shadow and was my constant companion no matter what I was doing. Unfortunately, we only had her for 5 years as she caught double pnuemonia and despite lots of vet care, she passed. This was so devasting as she was so young and should have had so much more life to live.
It took us over 2 years before we felt we were ready for another dog, then along came Maggie. Our sassy little Schmaltese or Malshi – a Shih Tzu/Maltese mix. She is 16lbs of fun and fiestyness (is that even a word?!). She will be 2 this year and I hope we have her for many years. She has also become my best buddy and follows me everywhere. She loves everyone though…she loves to snuggle on the couch.
I got thinking about our dogs today as I was making a sympathy card for the loss of a dog. Here is the card:
The card was made using items from Taylored Expressions. I created the heart using their heart masking stencils and used gold ink to color it. I then stamped the paw prints with black ink. I used the paw prints stamp set which also includes the sentiment. I also used one of their small dog breed die set and added the silhoutte of the dog. I framed it in a gold/orange cardstock and adhered it to a white card base.
Losing a dog or any beloved pet is such a hard thing but the love we have from then while they are with us makes it all worthwhile.
Before I left on our trip I ordered a few things from one of my favorite stamping stores “My Favorite Things”. The box was here when I got home so finally this afternoon I got to play with some of my new things. I chose the die set “Fishbowl Die-namics”. This is what I made.
Basically everything you see has been cut from colored cardstock and layered together. I added the white dots on the fish with a gel pen and added “grains of sand” with brown copic markers.
I also bought the sentiment stamp set that goes along with this and stamped “You’re Fin-tastic” to finish it off.
I don’t have a card to post today but I will try to get one up later on. Last week was very busy and so I didn’t have much time to post. We always go away for Memorial Weekend and this year we weren’t sure if that would happen or not. With the virus going around, we had to wait and see what our State decided to do. Relatively speaking, our state hasn’t been hit too hard so most of the State has been opened up with restrictions. So we decided to go ahead with our plans. We take our RV and are pretty much isolated within our family so we knew it would be pretty safe, especially as we planned on a mostly driving trip. The week was spent getting ready to go and in the middle of it I went into afib again, so that slowed me down as it usually does. I have been wearing a heart monitor so hopefully by the end of 30 days they can see whats going on.
We drove to Southwestern Utah and stayed in Monticello. The main reason we chose this area was because I wanted to see Monument Valley. Growing up in Scotland, I remember my Dad watching all of these old western movies and so many of them were filmed in and around Monument Valley. So I’ve always wanted to go there. It was about a 5 hour drive to get to Monticello and when we got there we were told that the Navajo Nation, who live on the reservation on Monument Valley, lock down on the weekends due to the virus. If we didn’t see it Friday, then we wouldn’t see it at all. So we quickly parked the RV and freshened up some and drove to Monument Valley so we could see it before it closed. It was stunning! Pictures don’t capture the sheer vastness of everything. I thought of my Dad and how he would have loved to have seen it. There were places we could have gone to learn about the movies made there but everything was closed, thats okay. I’m just glad I got to finally be there.
The next day we visited Natural Bridges, Goosenecks point and Valley of the Gods. The scenery was just spectacular. We came home a day early due to plumbing issues in our RV but we had a great time anyway. Its also nice to have a day at home and we plan on barbecuing tonight.
I have a birthday coming up, a big birthday! Its tomorrow. This morning there were some flowers delivered to me from one of my best friends who I don’t get to see much anymore since we moved away. All of my close friends live far away. Its hard at times. Anyway, the flowers are beautiful. My friend chose my favorite colors and it was a wonderful start to the day.
Then one of my brothers, who lives in Scotland, messaged me to set up a time to video chat tomorrow. So, I’m looking forward to that.
Every few days lately, people line our neighborhood streets with their children and a parade of cars goes by. The cars are decorated by the local teachers and they are able to wave to their students as they drive by. Its so heartwarming.
So, onto a card! This one took a while. Mostly because when I stamped the sentiment at the end, I smeared the ink. So I had to try to remove the stamped images to put onto another background. I did okay until I got the the house and then I ripped it. So I had to redo the house completely. It all turned out ok in the end and I love it.
For this card I used the stamp set “Hanging with my gnomies” from My Favorite Things. I love this stamp set, there are so many images and so many possiblities with it. So I chose the image of the house, the lady gnome and the gnome holding flowers. I also used a couple of the lady bug images. I stamped those images on to Neenah Classic Crest Solar white 80lb cardstock with Memento Tuxedo black ink. I then colored them with copic and spectrum noir alchohol markers.
For the background I used a stencil from Simon Says Stamp for the clouds and then die cut some green cardstock for the grass with Honey Bee grass edge die. I then stamped the sentiment “To gnome you is to love you”. I then glued everything onto the card using art glitter glue. I framed the panel with some light blue cardstock and adhered it to an A2 size card base.
Despite the trouble I had, it was worth the effort and I think it turned out so cute!
A quick update on our baby birds….they are growing SO fast! All three look very healthy.
I hope you are all well. See you next time!
Here is a list of some of the items I used in my card:
Its been a week already and its only Wednesday! On Monday I went into afib so that pretty much took me out of commission for the day. Yesterday I had a Facetime appointment with my cardiologist. It was interesting to say the least. Kind of nice to “see” him from the comfort of my home but also kind of strange. So I get to wear a heart monitor for 30 days again. I did this last year around this time. It wasn’t too bad until towards the end of the 30 days when I had run out of places to stick the electrodes and I got such a bad rash from the adhesive. We had gone away for Memorial Weekend and my skin was so irritated that I took the monitor off for a few hours. We were in the middle of nowhere when my phone rang and the monitor people were calling to make sure I was still alive!! It was pretty funny. Yes, I was still alive, just so darn itchy!!
Today we are taking Maggie to the vet. It will be strange once again as they will come to our car and take her in without us. It makes me anxious as I know how stressed she gets at the vet, even when we are with her. She has strange rust colored areas on her body and little black flecks on her stomach. When we google it, it seems it may be from a yeast infection. Hopefully its something that is easy to treat. She’s acting ok. Last night she ran around the yard so long that she just collapsed on the floor when she came in, she completely wore herself out! Every time we all settle down to watch a movie, she starts talking to us because she wants a bone to chew on. The trouble is, she wants a brand new bone every time and she will literally argue with us over it!! Its hilarious. We’ve never had a dog who will “talk” to us before.
We checked on the baby starlings yesterday and they are growing fast. Their eyes are open and their feathers are growing. Its so fun to watch them grow.
So, onto card making. I got a cute new stamp set from My Favorite Things the other day. So I made a birthday card featuring one of gnomes.
I really enjoy using patterned paper on my cards, as well as using stamped images, so this card uses both. I stamped the image and colored it with copic markers. I then cut it out using the matching dies. I got a paper pack from Photo play ages ago that featured garden gnomes and all of the patterned paper was from that.
I stamped the sentiment and then adhered everything together.
Hello all! I hope that all of the mothers out there are having a good day. We are having a quiet day. The girls and my husband gave me some cards and bought me some flowers for the front porch and the deck. One of my daughters is making dinner and we will have a relaxing evening watching a movie together.
Here are the flowers we chose. I think they are so pretty.
Here are our baby birds…they are growing! Its so fun to go out on the deck and to hear them chirping everytime their mom comes to feed them.
So, since it is Mother’s Day, you may expect me to post a Mother’s Day card! Well, you would be wrong! I made a Father’s Day card the other day and thats the one I will share today. It’ll be here before we know it.
I find it hard to make more masculine cards but this one came together quite easily for me. In the Scrapping For Less kit a few months ago, it was all masculine papers and stamps and thats what helped this happen so easily.
So, the paper that I used came from Scrapping For Less. I love their paper as it is a good quality cardstock and it has a sheen to it that I really like. I used a window die and chose some tool themed paper to fill in the spaces. I used the Sunny Studio “tool time” stamp set that came in the kit.
I colored the saw image with copic markers and added some enamel dots to finish it off.
We are in the middle of a bad cold snap right now and even got a little snow on Sunday. I’m glad it’s going to gradually warm up again by the end of the week but it was a reminder of winter being just around the corner! I’ve been cozy and warm inside making cards.… Continue reading Brrr…
Today I’m sharing a card I made with Newton’s Nook Main Street Christmas stamp set. For this card I used some Hero Art’s reactive ink for the background and sprinkled some water on it to get the effect that I love. I stamped the image and then colored it with copic markers. I wanted something… Continue reading Christmas Village card
A week or so ago we drove up into the mountains to see the fall leaves…unfortunately most of the leaves were gone already but it was so beautiful anyway. We even saw a little snow. Here’s some pictures: Today I made a few birthday cards using a stamp set from Penny Black and some dies… Continue reading Birthday cards
There hasn’t been too much going on so I don’t have much to talk about today. I’ve been tired as I couldn’t go to sleep last night so I’ve been dragging all day long. Its a beautiful sunny day.
We have an old grill on our deck that we need to throw away. In our last home, some starlings made a nest inside it two years in a row. This year some other starlings have nested there. They laid 4 eggs and yesterday 3 of them hatched. I don’t think the other egg is going to hatch. The babies are so cute. We love to watch them grow.
So onto a card I made the other day. I don’t usually like bugs but the bugs in this stamp set are adorable. This is a stamp set from Heffy Doodle. Its the first time I’ve used their products and I’ll definately use them again.
Here is the card.
Yellow is my favorite color and I’ve made a few yellow cards lately! Its just so bright and cheery. I stamped the images and colored them with copic alcohol markers. Then I cut them out. For the card base I used Recollections heavy weight cardstock in white and it measures 9″x4″. I used the Whimsy stamps slimline postage die for the front of the card and used 2 yellow polka dot papers for the background.
I placed the images in each of the windows and stamped the sentiment “Sending you big bug hugs”. I used Scotch 3D foam tape to add some dimension to the window.
I think its just so bright and summery, it makes me happy.
The weather has finally changed and things have cooled down, so it feels like fall now! Yesterday my girls and I went to the pumpkin patch for our yearly tradition of picking out pumpkins. It was a beautiful day and we had a lot of fun. Its been a busy time so I haven’t blogged… Continue reading It finally feels like fall!
Its finally cooled down a little for a few days but it’ll warm up again by the middle of the week. It really doesn’t feel like we are almost in October but Im still enjoying making Halloween cards. This one is a slimline card. As always, I stamped my images and then cut them with… Continue reading Halloween slimline card
This card was inspired by my granddaughter who just turned 5 the other day. When she was up here visiting the other week, we were in the yard playing and she picked a dandelion. I told her she should make a wish before she blew on it. Her wish was “I want to be a… Continue reading I want to be a Princess already!!
Its been an uneventful day. I’ve spent most of the day in my craft room without too much to show for the time I’ve spent in here!! I really should clean and organize it but that seems like too much effort! It would be nice to be able to find what I’m looking for though! I don’t have a very big space and I have too many things. I don’t have a very good system for organization.
So today I made a set of notecards. They are very simple but its good to have them on hand, especially nowadays when we can’t see our family and friends as easily as we once could. So its nice to send a note in the mail to let them know they are in our thoughts.
Here are the cards I made:
I embossed some white cardstock and then used different colored cardstock to frame them. I stamped “Hello” in the top left corner and adhered everything together and that was it! Very simple but I like how they turned out.
